Project 03 / 07 · Past role · 2023–2026
One Percent
Turning food photographs into nutritional insights.
A subscription wellness app that turns a photograph of a meal into nutritional insight.
- NestJS
- MySQL
- AWS
- OpenAI
- RevenueCat
01 · Context
I co-founded One Percent and was CTO from 2023 to 2026. I owned the architecture and the path to production: the clients, the API, the data, billing and the deploys.
02 · Problem
The product covered nutrition, activity, hydration, gamification and short lessons, on iOS, Android and web, plus an internal tool for recipes. Subscription state had to match what people had actually paid.
03 · My responsibilities
- Co-founder and CTO
- Product and application architecture
- AI-powered image analysis for nutrition
- NestJS API and SQL database
- AWS deployment
- CI/CD on GitHub Actions
- RevenueCat subscriptions
- Review, CI and releases for a small team
04 · Architecture
One NestJS API and a MySQL database serve the Ionic, Angular and Capacitor app, an Angular backoffice, and the web. A meal photo goes to an OpenAI-backed nutrition scan. Subscriptions arrive through RevenueCat webhooks. Push uses OneSignal. GitHub Actions deploys to AWS.
One product, one API
- 01ClientsIonic app, backoffice, web
- 02NestJS APIOne backend for every client
- 03MySQLRecipes, users, subscription state
- 04OpenAIA meal photo becomes nutrition insight
- 05RevenueCatWebhooks keep billing in sync
- 06AWSGitHub Actions deploys it
Simplified public view.
05 · Technical decisions
- One API and one database for every client, so billing and content do not fork.
- RevenueCat webhooks are the source of subscription state.
- The nutrition scan runs on the server through the OpenAI API.
- CI and releases were set up so a small team could ship.
06 · Results
In production from 2023 to 2026. I owned billing consistency, CI/CD and production failures while I was CTO.
